Flare Stack Tip Replacement

Oil Refinery

A Caribbean refinery had to replace their sulphur flare tip after an inspection by ICM showed that it was severely corroded.

The challenge to the ICM team was that the refinery required this to be accomplished without the use of a crane. The flare stack was 325 feet high and the tip that needed to be replaced weighed in excess of 1800 pounds.

ICM solved the problem by installing a temporary scaffold davit cathead rig and using an 8000 pound air winch. The old flare tip was safely lowered to the ground and then the new tip was raised into place. The entire operation was completed within a short 3 day window.
